When selecting patients for office-based anesthesia, a surgeon should consider the patient's full medical history and the complexity of the planned procedure selecting for those with generally good health, with stable/controlled medical conditions if any, and for procedures considered predictable and low-risk. Specialty Anesthesia Partners will provide a patient selection criteria and guide that may help in selecting for appropriate OBA patient. We are always available to informally discuss any questions you may have as you approach a care strategy for your unique patients.

Specialty Anesthesia Partners stresses the importance of information sharing, care coordination, and perioperative patient management between the primary dental-surgical team and consulting anesthesia team. Prior to scheduling your patient, our team will complete a preoperative review of identified patients and their specific risks and provide the treating surgical team with recommendations. The primary dental team retains the responsibility for the continuity of care for their patient. If Specialty Anesthesia Partners has accepted participation in the anesthetic care of your patient, we will work closely to help your team to get your patient “the right care, in the right place, at the right time” with the assistance of specifically designed workflow tool. Safety is paramount to delivering OBA care, and while our anesthesiology services play a central role in the perioperative management of patients, a multidisciplinary approach is essential to maintain continuity of care, improve safety, reduce risks and complications, reduce communication lapses, avoid cancelations and delays, and improve the quality of care.
